Name: Ein (from his daughter's example, this is almost certainly an abbreviation for ease of use by other cultures).
Canon: Sable's Grimoire (a small indie magic school VN)
Age: 'Many centuries'
Species: Elf (demihuman).

Basic info: He who gave shape to the modern world, when he established lasting formal relationships between humans and demihumans, blunting millennia of distrust and violence. The founder and principal of Amadronia Academy, the foremost school of magical arts, which brought together all species under one roof to share their knowledge and establish a basis for trust and tolerance. Outside dragonkind, one of the most skilled and powerful mages in the world. In other words, the pivotal figure of an epoch, along with his late partner in diplomacy, the human scientist Bartholomew.

This is how Ein is known to history.

Almost all of it is even true, which makes knowledge of Ein's actual, unfiltered personality that much more incomprehensibly disappointing. He is above all feckless and distractible, offloading his considerable responsibilities at any opportunity. He married a known criminal and then promptly turned around and exiled her again when it turned out he couldn't reform her. He abandoned his young daughter, first for his diplomatic endeavors, but then settled down to start an entirely different family... possibly more than once. And then he continued to avoid all of them to take up his position at Amadronia, where he turned out to be a less-than-energetic administrator who, most crucially, has put forth little effort to convince his charges of the necessity or even the factual nature of his policing initiative for mages and demihumans, who as a result mostly regard it as bigoted oppression on behalf of humans, sowing division among the students. He professes to desire rapprochement with his daughter but does basically nothing but annoy and tease her, unwilling or unable to moderate his clownish personality to meet her straightlaced nature. And to top it all off he flouts his own rules to study forbidden magic.

Oh and he killed Bartholomew and used his identity to advance his diplomatic efforts. But the guy had it coming.

Basically he's good at diplomatic schmoozing, joking around, magic, and (within the limits of a centuries-old inheritor of the foremost magical orthodoxy) thinking outside the box. In most other respects he's somewhere on the range of 'annoyingly vague' through 'inappropriately lighthearted' to 'dangerously irresponsible.' And it's very vaguely hinted that he may have a darker side yet; it's quite explicit that the elven marriage ritual can't be completed between couples who don't have some level of personal compatibility, and his first wife was... a real piece of work. To put it mildly.
